News / Whalsay ferry out of action
WHALSAY’S ferry service will be running on a single vessel timetable for much of this week due to a technical fault with one of the boats.
The MV Linga is out of service and requires parts and fitting by a specialist engineer from Norway. Once these have been fitted and the vessel has undergone safety checks, it is hoped the Linga will be able to return to service – possibly by Friday (8 January).
In the meantime the single-vessel timetable will see MV Hendra follow the Linga’s normal timetable. Existing bookings are suspended and ferries are operating ono a first come, first served basis.
A Shetland Islands Council spokeswoman said the local authority wished to apologise to travelling passengers for the disruption.
