News / Shetland News in the running for two awards
CHRISTMAS came early for the team at Shetland News when we learned that we have been shortlisted in two categories at the 2016 Highlands and Islands Media Awards.
We are a finalist for the ‘top story of the year’ award, where our chief reporter Neil Riddell’s persistent efforts over the past 12 months to hold Loganair bosses to account have been recognised.
Shetland News has again been shortlisted in the ‘best use of digital media’ category, an award we won back in 2013.
Our colleagues at the Shetland Times are also finalists in two categories.
The full shortlist of all Highlands and Islands Media award categories can be found here.
The winners will be announced during a press ball in the Drumossie Hotel, in Inverness on 5 February 2016.

Shetland News is asking its many readers to consider start paying for their dose of the latest local news delivered straight to their PC, tablet or mobile phone.
Journalism comes at a price and because that price is not being paid in today’s rapidly changing media world, most publishers - national and local - struggle financially despite very healthy audience figures.
Most online publishers have started charging for access to their websites, others have chosen a different route. Shetland News currently has over 600 supporters who are all making small voluntary financial contributions. All funds go towards covering our cost and improving the service further.
Your contribution will ensure Shetland News can: -
- Bring you the headlines as they happen;
- Stay editorially independent;
- Give a voice to the community;
- Grow site traffic further;
- Research and publish more in-depth news, including more Shetland Lives features.
