News / Freight sailing disruption

THE FREIGHT boat MV Helliar’s sailing from Aberdeen to Lerwick on Saturday has been cancelled, while MV Hildasay’s scheduled trip from Lerwick to Kirkwall and Aberdeen is under review.

After schedule changes due to Friday night’s strong winds, the Hrossey and Hjaltland passenger ferries are due to leave Aberdeen and Lerwick on time on Saturday.

The Hjaltland arrived in Lerwick at 11.45pm last night, having left early to miss the worst of the gales.

Serco NorthLink said there remained the potential for disruption due to the weather throughout the weekend, with updates being issued via its operations page.

The winds also led to the cancellation of several Loganair flights in and out of Sumburgh on Friday, but all flights were able to take off and land in the first half of Saturday.
