News / Festival of lights

Candles lit during the Cunningsburgh Diwali celebration.

MORE than £2,000 was raised on Saturday for the charity Save The Children after a Diwali night was held in Cunningsburgh public hall.

The event, the most northerly of its kind in the UK, celebrated the ancient Hindu festival of lights.

The celebration featured a three-course menu, as well as entertainment, performances and a raffle.

A number of attendees also dressed “Bollywood” in an attempt to win the night’s ‘best dressed’ prize.
