News / Nigel’s walk for refugees
A SHETLAND resident is walking the Borders Abbeys Way to raise funds to help tackle the European refugee crisis this week.
Nigel Hayward is tackling the 68-mile circular walk around the Scottish Borders with his brother Colin. The walk began on Monday and is expected to take around five days.
He is nearly halfway towards his £1,500 target, with the proceeds going to the British Red Cross. You can donate via his Just Giving page.
The refugee crisis has seen millions in Syria fleeing their homes in recent years. This year alone, more than 2,700 people have died trying to reach sanctuary in Europe – the majority drowning in the Mediterranean.
