News / Police target inconsiderate driving
MORE THAN 30 people have been charged with various motoring offences following a police operation in Shetland last week.
Led by police constable Calum MacAuley, the intelligence-led operation specifically targeted inconsiderate driver behaviour and disrupting travelling criminals’ use of the road.
MacAuley added that the operation was part of a rolling programme and the public should expect to see police officers carry out these checks “sporadically but regularly”.
The operation took place across the isles between Wednesday 7 October and last Friday.
In total, one driver was charged with dangerous driving, two with insurance offences, two with crimes relating to justice, and a further 27 for speeding and other miscellaneous road traffic offences.
One person was found in possession of controlled drugs and a further driver was apprehended for drink driving, which resulted in vehicle forfeiture.
Constable MacAuley said that while many of these drivers had been issued with fixed penalty notices some will be reported to the procurator fiscal.
