News / Couper denied bail on assault charge
A YOUNG Shetland man who denies violently assaulting his partner has been kept behind bars after appearing at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday afternoon.
Trevor Couper, of 37 Cairnfield Road, Lerwick, pled not guilty to behaving in a threatening manner at an address at Lerwick’s Sandveien on 15 July by shouting, swearing and making threats.
The 22 year old also denied assaulting his partner at the same address on 16 July by pushing her onto a sofa and repeatedly punching her on the head.
Couper is also accused of pushing her onto the floor, grabbing her by the throat, compressing her throat and gouging her eyes, all to her injury.
A trial date was set for 6 August, with an intermediate diet on 5 August.
