News / CLAN volunteer plea
CLAN Cancer Support has issued a fresh plea for people in Shetland to join its team as volunteers.
The charity, which has a support centre on Lerwick’s Commercial Road, wants individuals to help deliver its services in the isles.
It is also looking for volunteers to staff its charity shop as well as help out at fundraising events in Shetland.
CLAN is based in Aberdeen and it gives assistance to those in the north of Scotland affected by cancer, with the local branch offering counselling, complementary therapies, craft classes, nutritional eating workshops and lunches.
The charity’s Shetland coordinator Dana Millarkie said that the call for more volunteers in the isles is the result of an increase in demand.
“CLAN is much loved in Shetland and the continued support it receives from the people on the islands is vital to our success.
“We are keen for individuals to get involved with helping out at our shop, events or giving up their time to become a support volunteer with the charity. If anyone could help us in any way, it would be greatly appreciated by so many associated with CLAN.”
Those interested in volunteering for CLAN can contact the Lerwick branch on (01595) 720320 or email shetland@clanhouse.org
