News / Motorbiking drink driver
AN UNEMPLOYED Lerwick man has been disqualified from driving and fined after taking a motorbike for a spin while almost twice the alcohol limit.
Nineteen year old Mark Simon Rushby, of 5 Ladies Drive, took the unregistered vehicle from his house on 20 May during a party.
He drove the motorbike, without insurance and whilst on bail, a distance of the “quarter length of a football pitch” from his house and was spotted by police, who breathalysed him.
Sheriff Philip Mann said during sentencing at Lerwick’s Sheriff Court on Wednesday that, while Rushby was not “massively over the limit” and only “intended to drive a short distance”, the incident was still a serious one.
He imposed a 12-month driving disqualification, which can be reduced by Rushby taking a drink-driver rehab course.
Mann also fined him £400 for driving the vehicle over the alcohol limit and issued a £150 fine for using the motorbike whilst uninsured.
