News / Chess champions
SHETLAND’s junior chess championship, sponsored by law firm Inksters and held last weekend at Shetland Museum, resulted in a three-way tie for the second year running.
Duncan Burgess, Leon Riise and Luke Riise shared the prize money after a fascinating fifth and final round.
Just like last year, the tournament result hinged on a game between Luke and his elder brother Leon, and just like last year Leon went astray in a winning position to set up a tie on 4/5.
There was also a new prize for the highest placed primary school entrant, and this one was also shared among three competitors: Maks Inkster, Jack Petrie and Theo Smith.
