News / Norholm under tow
THE LERWICK registered live fish carrier Norholm sparked a major emergency off Cape Wrath on Sunday evening after losing engine power in a westerly gale.
The 32 metre vessel, with four crew on board, was drifting towards the rocky coastline after attempts to keep herself away from the shore using her own anchor didn’t work.
The Stornoway based Coastguard search and rescue helicopter was also tasked in case the crew had to abandon the vessel.
The Lochinver lifeboat however managed to hold her away from the shoreline and also succeeded in taking her back out to sea and around Cape Wrath.
The crew from the Lochinver lifeboat then handed over to the Thurso lifeboat until the emergency towing vessel Herakles arrived on the scene, on Monday morning.
The Norholm is now under tow by the Herakles bound for Scapa Flow.
The incident was initially coordinated by the Stornoway coastguard station but has now been taken over by their colleagues from Shetland.
