News / Extra pontoon
A LOCAL salmon business has donated a pontoon to Lerwick harbour to help it cope with the influx of yachts this summer.
The harbour tug Kebister towed the 50 metre pontoon from Hjaltland Seafarms’ Girlsta operation to Albert Wharf where local engineering firm Ocean Kinetics moored it to the waterfront.
The berth opened on Thursday ready for the 28th annual Bergen-Shetland race that will bring more than 40 yachts into the port next weekend.
As well as providing extra berthing capacity the pontoon will shelter Albert Dock where the other seasonal pontoons are located.
