News / Guilty plea over 999 nuisance calls
A TEENAGER has been kept behind bars after admitting he made nuisance 999 calls to the police when he appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
Nineteen year old Nathan Hilditch, of Horseshoe Close, Virkie, pled guilty to making calls to Police Scotland “for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to officers and staff” between 18 May and 2 June.
Procurator fiscal Duncan MacKenzie said it was “difficult to properly convey just how much of a drain on resources this man is” when he phones the police – causing officers to visit the south mainland to deal with the bogus calls.
Sentence was deferred until 26 June for a social work report to be obtained.
Meanwhile Hilditch pled not guilty to charges of attempting to steal a vehicle from Dragontree Cottage in Virkie on 26 May, and assaulting a man by repeatedly throwing punches at him on the same day.
He will appear on 26 June for an intermediate diet followed by a trial scheduled for 23 July.
The defence’s application for bail was turned down by honorary sheriff Eric Peterson.
