News / Referendum register
PEOPLE aged 16 and 17 are being encouraged to ensure they are registered to vote in the September referendum on Scottish independence.
The Electoral Registration Office has written to all of those young people already on the polling list confirming their name is included. Those whohave not yet registered have also been contacted and invited to do so, with a deadline for applications of 2 September – 16 days before the ballot.
Electors over the age of 18 received polling cards for the European parliamentary elections held on 22 May. The card confirms an individual’s current entry on the register of electors.
Even those who did not vote last month are being encouraged to check the details on the card were correct and contact the Electoral Registration Office as soon as possible with any changes in advance of the referendum.
* You can get further information by contacting the Electoral Registration Office, based at 20 Commercial Road, on (01595) 745700 or by emailing ero@shetland.gov.uk. Further information is also available at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk
