News / Yell boat towed in
THE AITH lifeboat was called out to tow in a creel boat with two people on board after it broke down off the west coast of the Shetland island of Yell.
Shetland coastguard were called out at 9.30pm on Saturday night in wet and windy conditions to come to the aid of the 21 foot Polaris in Whale Firth.
The Aith lifeboat Charles Lidbury was launched shortly before 10pm to assist.
The lifeboat crew said Polaris had put out an anchor, but the vessel was in a fairly dangerous position in shallow water close to steep cliffs. There was sufficient power to run the navigation lights and radio telephone.
The lifeboat moved her to a safer position before towing her to a nearby pontoon where she was moored safely at 12.50am.
