News / Jail warning for elderly drug dealer
A SIXTY five year old Lerwick drug dealer will almost certainly be sent to jail when he appears for sentencing before the town’s sheriff court in late June.
On Monday, Alexander Goodlad, of 16 North Lochside pled guilty to supplying heroin from his home address between 15 and 29 July last year.
Police raided his house following a tip off from a member of the public and found 17 grams of heroin, scales and other equipment.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie told the court that Goodlad initially denied being involved in drug dealing.
He also denied being a user of heroin despite previous drugs related convictions.
The procurator fiscal said the class A drug was found in five larger bags with a wholesale value of between £410 and £860 and, broken down to the smallest unit, could potentially have fetched £1,700 on the black market.
“He was in it for the financial gain,” the fiscal added.
Defence solicitor Keith Leishman asked for bail to be continued and said he would speak in mitigation of his client once social justice reports have been compiled for the next court hearing.
Sheriff Philip Mann told Goodlad that he “should prepare for the inevitable” as he had made it clear on several occasions that drug dealers would be jailed at his court.
He allowed bail to continue and deferred sentence until 26 June.
