News / Loft fire
FIRE fighters from Lerwick had a big job on their hands on Thursday evening when it took them more than three hours to locate and extinguish a smouldering fire in the loft of the town’s Alexandra Buildings.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to the office block on The Esplanade at just before 5pm after staff there had reported the smell of burning.
It took hours to gain access and inspect the building’s massive loft area. Eventually a small fire caused by an electric cable was found and put out.
Fire control in Inverness said damage was limited to a beam in the ceiling.
Fire fighters used one hose reel jet and small equipment to extinguish the fire. They were back at base at just after 8pm.
