News / Frying high…again
BRAE’S multi-award winning fish and chip shop Frankie’s has another trophy to decorate its fryers.
On Friday the busy eatery was named Fish and Chip Shop of the Year by the Fishermen’s Mission after raising more than £5,000 for the charity last year.
Owner Valerie Johnson and manager John Gold travelled to London’s Trinity House for the award, where they were joined by Shetland Fishermen’s Mission advisory committee chairman Alan Gifford.
The cash was raised during last May’s Mussel Weekend run in conjunction with local firm Blueshell Mussels, and its annual charity cycle sportive in September.
Raising the charity’s work, Gold said: “It is always a pleasure to raise money for the Fishermen’s Mission because it plays such a valuable role in our community and communities like ours.”
In January Frankie’s was named best fish and chip shop in Scotland and second best in the UK at the National Fish & Chip Awards in London.
They hope to have another Mussel Weekend in May or June this year and the annual cycle sportive will be on Sunday 31 August.
