News / Folk tales
A COLLECTION of Shetland folk tales compiled by local folklorist Lawrence Tulloch is being published by The History Press on Friday.
Illustrated by Alexa Fitzgibbon, the book is described as a “vibrant collection of local stories handed down through generations of storytellers”.
It brings together for the first time many tales of the isles, including The Boy Who Came from the Ground and Norway’s First Troll.
As a child Tulloch learned many folk tales from his father whose folklore was collected by the School of Scottish Studies
As a storyteller, Tulloch has travelled widely and has been invited to tell stories in the United States, Ireland, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Norway, Sweden, Slovenia and Austria.
Shetland Folk Tales is available from 4 April, priced £9.99.
