News / Yell company the latest break-in victim
YELL based plant hire and haulage contractor Victor Jamieson Ltd has become the latest victim in series of break-ins targeted at locally based businesses.
Police in Shetland said that a large sum of money was taken from the company’s premises at Vaarheim, in Mid Yell, overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.
They added that the culprits had also caused damage to the premises.
Over Christmas, two garage businesses, Burra Motors, in Hamnavoe, and PJ Hursons, in Ollaberry, were broken in and large sums of money were taken.
Police investigations into both these offences are ongoing and no arrests have been made.
On Thursday police called on anybody with any knowledge of the latest break-in to get in touch via the Police Scotland 101 phone number.
A spokesman said: “Police are keen to speak to anyone with knowledge of the incident, or saw any persons or vehicles acting suspiciously in the area described.
“It is also requested that members of the public remain extra vigilant for any suspicious activity especially around their small businesses and garages.
This is a further reported incident whereby an essential business serving the local community has being targeted.”
