News / SLAP gets positive response
A PLANNING application to clear the way to build houses at North Staney Hill above Lerwick’s Clickimin Leisure Complex is to be submitted by early May following a public consultation session on Wednesday.
Shetland Leasing and Property Development Ltd (SLAP) and Hjaltland Housing Association said their plans had received widespread support during the session, which was attended by more than 50 people.
Landowner SLAP want Shetland Islands Council to rezone the large piece of land from education to housing, now that it has agreed to sell the council a neighbouring site for the new Anderson High School development.
Planning consultant Alan Farningham said most of the people who turned up at Wednesday’s session lived in neighbouring properties.
“Everyone attending has been very interested in the proposal and engaged fully with the process,” he said.
“There has been a very positive response and everyone has recognised that there is a need for more housing in Lerwick, so there is support for housing on the site.
“Many of those attending the consultation highlighted the need to address existing local traffic and drainage issues along with the provision of green space and planting as part of the proposals.”
An environmental impact assessment will now address those concerns ready to be submitted along with the outline planning application.
