News / Green Deal refunds available
ANYONE who has paid up for a “Green Deal” household energy assessment may be eligible for a refund, according to local trading standards officers.
Earlier this week it emerged that several islanders had received cold calls from a firm called Green Deal Rewards Ltd, with some paying £150 for a survey that never materialised.
On Friday Shetland Islands Council said that the company has now ceased trading due to severe financial difficulties.
The council said that anyone who has paid out money to the company but not received the full service they paid for should contact their bank or credit card company to request a refund.
Trading standards team leader David Marsh added: “If they need evidence about the fact that the company has ceased trading then we can send them out a letter with the information that we have to pass on to their bank.”
Anyone needing further advice can contact trading standards by phone on 01595 744887, by email to trading.standards@shetland.gov.uk or in person at the council office on the ground floor of Charlotte House in Lerwick.
Meanwhile anyone seeking an energy efficiency survey can contact the council’s environment and energy team on 01595 744848 who may be able to offer one for free.
