News / Young writers award
ENTRIES are being sought for this year’s Young Shetland Writer competition, with school pupils being encouraged to write about their home islands.
This year’s “Shetland” theme is designed to tie in with Shetland Forwird’s year of dialect.
The awards ceremony will be held in Shetland Library in September and competition winners will receive prizes from the Shetland Museum.
Librarian Morag Nicolson, who is organising the competition, said: “I hope young people will see this as an opportunity to write about their islands in either England or the Shetland dialect.”
She added: “We’ve had a huge amount of interest in the competition from schools, where dialect and local history projects have been running since the start of the school year, so we hope to have a record number of entries this time.”
Entry forms, with full details of the rules and conditions, are available from Shetland Library, in all Shetlnad schools and online here.
