News / Concern grows for missing man
CONCERN is growing for the whereabouts of a Shetland crofter who has not been seen since he went missing in his car on Monday evening.
Shetland’s coastguard rescue helicopter and four teams of coastguard auxiliaries spent all day on Tuesday from 8am searching Shetland’s north mainland for 54 year old Colin Arnot.
He was reported missing after 7pm on Monday and is believed to have been driving a green Mitsubishi Shogun Pinn 4×4 registration number X699 VYA.
Arnot is a tall man around six feet two inches, well built with a short beard and grey hair who speaks with an English accent.
He farms alpaca sheep in North Roe where he was last seen and throughout Tuesday search concentrated on covering the Northmavine area.
He is known to suffer from health problems, which have raised the level of concern for his wellbeing.
Area inspector chief inspector Angus McInnes said: “We are very concerned for him and would appeal for anyone who knows where he is or who may have seen him to get in touch with us on 101.
The police believe Arnot may have travelled outside Northmavine and are now appealing for people throughout the islands to keep their eyes peeled for the missing man.
“Anyone that owns any land or is out walking their dogs in remote areas, if they see the vehicle lying in a remote location then again we would ask therm to contact us.”
A coastguard spokesman said they had suspended their search as darkness fell around 4pm.
The rescue helicopter has flown the entire coastline of Northmavine, while ground based teams from Lerwick, West Burra, Hillswick and Sullom Voe have searched an extensive area from Fethaland to Mangaster.
