News / Couper back in custody

A YOUNG Lerwick serial offender was back in court on Thursday for the second time this week when he admitted breaching bail conditions imposed on him just hours before.

On Wednesday, Trevor Couper was released on bail pending reports after pleading guilty to a charge of shouting and swearing at Lerwick’s Esplanade.

Part of the bail conditions was that he stayed at his home address of 37 Cairnfield Road between 7pm and 7am every night.

When police checked up on him late on Wednesday night they found him not to be at home.

When arrested later the same evening, the 20-year-old said he had just been out for 20 minutes to retrieve his birth certificate from another address.

Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the case spoke for itself.

“This is simple and wilful disobedience of a court order served on him just hours before,” he said.

Sheriff Philip Mann remanded Couper in custody and told him that he showed disrespect towards the court and towards him.

Couper’s cases will now all be heard on 31 October.
