News / Helicopter emergency

EMERGENCY services were called out to Scatsta airport on Wednesday morning after a Sikorsky-92 helicopter with 19 people on board reported a burning smell in the cabin.

The helicopter, operated by Bristow, was on its way to one of the oil installations when the alarm was raised.

A spokeswoman said: “The crew elected to return to base in response to a smell of burning in the cabin – although no indication of smoke or fire was evident.”

The S-92 turned back to Scatsta and landed safely at 9.30am.
