News / Search for missing pensioner continues

Alistair Wishart.

POLICE in Shetland are still trying to trace Lerwick pensioner Alistair Wishart who was last seen on Saturday evening in the town’s John Jamieson Close.

The coastguard helicopter, Lerwick lifeboat and voluntary coastguard teams spent several hours on Sunday night searching the coastline and the area around Clickimin Loch after the 74-year-old was reported missing earlier the same day.

On Monday, sniffer dogs from the charity Dogs Against Drugs were also asked to help in the search.

Despite the full-scale search no trace of Alistair Wishart has been found.

He is described as 5’3’’, slim build with short grey/white hair, a beard and circular glasses.

When last seen he was wearing a navy jacket, navy jogging bottoms and navy slip-on canvas shoes.

Inspector Eddie Graham said: “I would ask that all householders within the Lerwick area check all garden sheds, outbuildings and parked vehicles as Alistair may have become disorientated and sought shelter in the inclement weather we have been experiencing recently.

“Due to Alistair’s age and vulnerability, I would stress the urgency in checking property and coming forward with any information that may help assist in this inquiry.”

Anyone with any information regarding Wishart’s whereabouts is asked to contact Lerwick police station on 101.
