News / Reels on Wheels premiere
SHETLAND’S annual film festival Screenplay draws to a close on Sunday with the world premiere of a documentary that celebrates the art of the short film.
Back in November 2011, Shetland Arts was commissioned to lead a UK-wide film project as part of the London 2012 Festival of the Olympic Games.
As a result, a number of short films from Shetland went on a journey across the UK the following summer where new, locally shot films were added.
This Hansel of Film was shown in 22 venues ranging from marquees and livestock sales rings to community halls and marquees.
Documenting the epic journey, local film maker Simon Thompson of Ronas Media has now put together a 84-minute film that will get its very first screening at Mareel, starting at 8pm.
Thompson said: “I’m delighted that the premiere of Reels on Wheels is happening on Sunday as the finale of Screenplay 2013.
“I’m looking forward to a fun evening, and for Shetland to be able to see what we got up to during our Hansel of Film tour round the UK during the Olympic summer of 2012.”
