News / Girlsta speed limit

The speed limit was introduced late last week - Photo: Shetland News

A SPEED limit of 50 miles per hour has been introduced on a stretch of road that has seen nine accidents with injuries over the last 12 years.

Council workmen have just completed erecting signs on the one mile long stretch at Girlsta on the A970 between the Wadbister and the Brunt Hamarsland junctions.

A council spokesman said the accident rate had been consistently above the threshold in the area.

Other accident hotspots are currently being investigated by officers with the view to implement measures that will reduce the accident risk.

They are at:

  • A970 Cunningsburgh to Fladdabister junction
  • B9071 Laxo junction to Voe
  • A971 Kalliness to Kergord junction
