News / Lighthouse access
VISITORS to Fair Isle have now for the first time the chance to climb to the top to the south lighthouse thanks to an agreement between the Northern Lighthouse Board and a newly formed local group.
The Fair Isle Lighthouse Society has now arranged for public liability insurance but relies on donations to make its tourism venture pay.
Group member Tommy Hyndman said: “Almost everyone who visits Fair Isle asks if they can go up the Lighthouse? But, this access has never been formally allowed until now.
“The money from donations will hopefully cover the start up cost, and future access fees should pay the yearly insurance after that.”
