AN HGV driver was released from hospital on Friday afternoon after his truck tipped over while loading sand at the Staney Hill quarry outside Lerwick.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 9.25am after the truck owned by Yell firm RS Henderson capsized.

Fire crews had been called out to free the driver, however by the time they arrived he was already clear of the vehicle and being taken to Gilbert Bain Hospital by ambulance.

The man was given a medical examination at the accident and emergency department and discharged within five hours of the incident taking place.

No one from the quarry owners Tulloch Developments was available for comment.
