News / Jail for dealing cannabis to friends
A YOUNG man from Lerwick was jailed for five months for dealing cannabis when he appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday.
The court heard that 23 year old Joshua Miller, of 24 Ladies Drive, had only supplied his friends with cannabis leaf and resin after getting into financial difficulties with his benefits.
Miller pled guilty to possession of diazepam and being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs at his home and at Sandveien, Lerwick, on 10 April last year.
Defence agent Tommy Allan pleaded for leniency saying that Miller had been hanging out with bad company at the time and had now sorted out his money woes, with a part time job that he hoped would become full time.
However Sheriff Philip Mann said that he had to send out a message to the community that if anyone was caught being concerned in the supply of drugs in Shetland they would be sent to jail.
He also forfeited the drugs and £1,200 in cash that were found when Miller was arrested.
