Letters / Moving the goalposts
So the housing department in all their wisdom have decided to give 11 of the new houses at Hoofields to people who are already in houses, just because it might save them a few pounds.
But what about the people who are on the waiting list and probably have been so for a long time?
I believe the reason for this is the people who will get them are struggling to pay their rent, so this is the council’s way of making sure they get the money.
People in three or four bedroom houses will now get the chance to downsize to a two bedroom house and people in a two bedroom house will downsize to a one bedroom house, which means 11 people on the waiting list will still have to stay there.
When we went on the council list we were told that unless there was an extreme case no one could jump in front of us, which we thought was a good idea.
However now they seem to be moving the goalposts yet again.
Only last week we had a knock on the door from the housing department telling us that no decision had been made as to who would be getting them.
And now a few days later, low and behold, this is what we hear.
So don’t tell me they didn’t know about this last Friday.
