Letters / What’s with Shetlopedia?
For awhile the Shetlopedia front page said that the site was being updated.
But since then, for perhaps a couple of months, trying to load one of its pages brought up a Google warning saying the site appeared to have become somehow involved in the spreading of malware.
The Google dialogue box gave two options: ignore the warning and continue to Shetlopedia, or go back the previous page. I always took the ‘go back’ option.
I have just tried to reach Shetlopedia. This time a dialogue box came up asking for a user name and password. The same username-password dialogue box comes up if I try a Google/Bing search.
A Yahoo search also brought up no Shetlopedia results. I have also tried search on the Shetland News front page.
I have found pages that contain hot-links to Shetlopedia. Clicking those also results in a username-password dialogue box.
I have looked on different forums and found nothing to explain the situation.
I know that some of Shetlopedia had become a little dated, but it still came up with information not easily found anywhere else.
I feel sure that I am not the only person in the world who misses it and wonder what has happened. Can anyone please help?
