Letters / Roads mayhem

Well, the first day on the reduced gritting rota has brought mayhem to the roads, a fair indication of things to come when we’re only just edging into winter.

Pity it wasn’t the chosen day for our officials to take the bus from the Westside to see what the children will have to endure twice a day for months.

Dicing with death on a daily basis can hardly be good for children expected to sit down and learn for the rest of the day with a return journey in the dark to look forward to at the end of their school day.
Having encouraged all of us to live, set up businesses and have children all over the islands we are now faced with school closures, ungritted roads, removal of ferries, job losses and depopulation.
Meanwhile the vast amount of money in the oil fund has been plundered without mercy for thirty years making some people very rich and wasting millions on badly thought out investments.

The rainy day has arrived but instead of having the oil fund to fall back on it has been bled nearly to death, the last drops being eyed by the vampire Viking Energy.
