News / The Hobbit & The Bolshoi
DECEMBER will see two screen highlights of the year at Lerwick’s Mareel cinema.
On 14 December the first in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy, An Unexpected Journey, will be screened on its 14 December release date.
Shetland Arts is encouraging viewers to come dressed in Hobbit and Lord of the Rings-themed costumes for the first screening at 7pm, with prizes for different 12 and unders, teenagers and 19 plus.
The arts agency has also teamed up with Anderson High School to encourage pupils to write a review of the book The Hobbit, with the best review published on Mareel’s website and its author receiving two free tickets for the film.
Meanwhile on 30 December the cinema will show its first “alternative content” screening with a performance of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite performed by the world famous Bolshoi Ballet.
The performance was filmed in December two years ago with ballerina Nina Kaptsova and is available only to cinemas around the world.
Tickets for both events go on sale on Friday 30 November at Mareel and Shetland Box Office.
