ALL TIME favourites New Rope String Band and Norwegian band Aamos, featuring Shetland fiddlers Mark Laurenson and Kevin Henderson alongside Vidare Skrede, have been booked for a three night pre-Christmas spree.

Both bands, supported by a different local act each night, will be performing at the Sandwick Social Club (30 November), the Muckle Roe Hall (1 December – already sold out) and Lerwick British Legion for an afternoon concert on 2 December.

Promoter Davie Henderson said:“There’s no doubt that once seen, the New Rope String Band are never forgotten.

“Truly unique entertainers, their precision-honed combination of beautiful acoustic music with circus, clowning, vaudeville, slapstick and sheer inspired silliness is guaranteed to result in uproarious performances.

“Currently touring as a three piece with Pete Challoner, Tim Dalling and Jock Tyldesley, these maniac minstrels mix up long time favourite routines with ever-evolving new material.”

He added: “To complement the hilarity, and inevitably bringing their own banter to the stage, is Aamos who were formed in Norway in 2008 by two former Shetland residents and fiddlers.

“Accompanied by guitarist Vidare Skrede from Rogaland in South Western Norway, Kevin Henderson from Lerwick and Mark Laurenson from Bigton are proud to showcase traditional Shetland music which forms the basis of the Aamos repertoire.”

In addition, the Sandwick concert will feature Väir. Featuring the musical talents of Ryan Couper, Jonny Polson and Lewie & Erik Peterson, Väir are one of the favourites on the folk circuit.

The Muckle Roe concert will feature Haltadans with Maurice Henderson, Lois Nicol, Ewen Thomson, Grant Nicol and John Clark who are sure to kick up a musical storm wherever they land.

The Sunday afternoon gig in the Lerwick Legion will feature two of Shetland’s finest guitarists and singers, father and son duo Brian and Arthur Nicolson.

Tickets are now on sale at High Level Music and the Sandwick Social Club at £14 each, with any remaining tickets available on the door.

Doors are open at 7pm in Sandwick and Muckle Roe, and 2pm at the Lerwick British Legion.
