News / Ship to ship
A ONE-off ship to ship transfer took place overnight on Sunday at Sullom Voe when the Bahamas registered Navion Hispania transferred a cargo of oil to the Liberian registered Zaliv Vostok.
Acting harbour master at Sella Ness, Colin Reeves, said normally oil is transferred from Russian ice-breaking tankers making their way to Shetland north of Norway to conventional tankers suited to deep sea journeys.
The weekend transfer involved a cargo of crude oil from the North Sea, which has never happened before.
“This is the first North Sea ship to ship transfer we have done here. I suspect it’s unusual circumstances so I don’t think it’s part of a new trade that we can expect more of,” Reeves said.
