News / Maddrim at festival
SHETLAND young film makers Maddrim Media have earned a slot in a national film festival to be held in Manchester next month with a drama based on research about the impact of poverty in the isles.
The group’s short film Shoormal is one of 66 chosen from a field of almost 200 to be screened at the 2012 Co-operative Film Festival on 1 and 2 November.
The film takes a poetic look at poverty, social exclusion and inequality from the perspective of the young and old. It can be seen here.
A documentary was made in conjunction with the dramatic piece, looking at some of the issues that were raised during the research project. The documentary can be seen here.
The research was carried out with young people throughout Shetland, with help from Grain Media, in London, who advised about the film making. Local drama development officer John Haswell helped with the dramatic version.
The Co-operative Film Festival is open to young people aged 19 or under and films no longer than six minutes.
More information about the festival an be found at www.co-operative.coop/filmfestival, on Facebook at www.facebook.com/thecooperativefilmfestival or via Twitter by following @coopfilmfest.
