News / Don’t lose your right to vote

HOUSEHOLDS in Shetland have been urged to return their electoral registration forms as soon as possible if they don’t want lose their right to vote.

Electoral registration officer for Orkney and Shetland, Michael Forbes, said around 3,000 households have not yet returned the forms, which were sent out last month.

Mr Forbes said: “Some people may not realise that you have to complete your electoral registration form every year.

“I am urging all those in Shetland receiving a reminder to return it as soon as possible.

“If your name is not on the register you will not be able to vote at any elections and may also find it difficult to obtain credit or open a bank account.”
