News / Geopark app
Geopark Shetland is working with an Irish IT specialist to create a map-based app for Android and iPhone to tell the story of the islands’ diverse and dramatic geology.
The project is one part of a two-year partnership with three other European Geopark areas jointly exploring the use of new technologies in heritage interpretation.
Geopark Shetland has been given £63,000 through the EU Leader programme to participate in the Heritage Interpretations using New Technologies (HINT) project. More info at: www.hintproject.eu
Project officer Robina Barton said she was keen to hear from anybody who would be willing to volunteer for testing the new app.
She can be contacted at Shetland Amenity Trust or by e-mail to robina@shetlandamenity.org

Shetland News is asking its many readers to consider start paying for their dose of the latest local news delivered straight to their PC, tablet or mobile phone.
Journalism comes at a price and because that price is not being paid in today’s rapidly changing media world, most publishers - national and local - struggle financially despite very healthy audience figures.
