Letters / Looking at the council’s priorities
It’s hard to feel sorry about Jonathan Wills’ overstuffed inbox (‘Plenty opportunities to object’, Shetland News, 18 Sep 12) when he is so enthusiastic about the council’s plan to close rural schools.
He seems confident in the education committee’s consultation process but, like Billy Fox, I’m not so sure.
Let’s hope the SIC adopts the sensible idea suggested by Gary Cleaver at the education committee meeting of stepping back and looking at the organisation’s priorities, instead of crashing ahead with a severe and damaging program of cuts.
Isn’t thinking about public services calmly, rationally, and, above all, compassionately the best way to deal with the local authority’s current maladies?
