News / Laser pen shone “recklessly” at driver

SHETLAND police are investigating reports a laser pen was shone in the face of a motorist driving along the A970 at Wormadale.

The beam is thought to have been directed from the Nesbister area, and police condemned the act as “extremely reckless”, saying it could have had “catastrophic consequences for the driver”.

A police spokesman said: “We would urge people in possession of these laser pens not to misuse them in this manner and remind people that matters such as this are taken very seriously by both the police and the courts.”

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Lerwick police station on 01595 692110, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or http://www.crimestoppers.org/uk.
