News / Digital forum rescheduled
A SECOND meeting of the Northern Isles Digital Forum has been rescheduled for the 17 September after the last event was cancelled due to poor weather.
BT Scotland’s director Brendan Dick has agreed to come to Shetland to discuss the quality of the isles’ internet services. Mr Dick will be accompanied by local BT engineers.
The meeting will be held at 12.30 at the Islesburgh Community Centre, in Lerwick, and will be chaired by Shetland MSP Tavish Scott.
Initiated by isles MP Alistair Carmichael, the digital forum seeks to give local people the opportunity to discuss mobile phone and broadband issues with service providers.
Mr Carmichael said: “Digital services are a real lifeline in communities in places like Shetland but the quality of connection available in some areas is lacking.
“Whether we are talking overall speed or consistency of service, it is clear that there is substantial room for improvement and I hope that this is something we will get a chance to discuss fully at the second meeting of the digital forum.”
