News / Scalloway post office

Northern isles MP Alistair Carmichael with Scalloway post office employee Janice Morrison

CONCERNS have been raised about the future of postal services in the Shetland village of Scalloway.

Current post office operators Yealtaland Books have decided to give up the business.

Northern isles MP Alistair Carmichael said he would be pushing Post Office management to attract a new business to operate the service, having been told other people were interested.

“Local people remember the difficulties caused the last time over the Post Office move in 2008. We must avoid a repetition and ensure that the village has a continuity of service,” Carmichael said.
