News / Mareel…but not quite yet
THE MUCH anticipated “soft” opening of Shetland’s £12 million cinema and music venue Mareel this weekend will not happen this weekend.
Shetland Arts director Gwilym Gibbons had said he was “hopeful” Saturday’s sold out Blazin’ Fiddles concert at the Garrison Theatre could be transferred to the new waterside building.
However on Thursday night the organisation posted a message on the Mareel Facebook page saying that would not take place.
The statement says:
Whilst we had hoped to transfer the sold out Blazin’ Fiddles concert from the Garrison Theatre to Mareel on Saturday, we can now confirm that the last minute move will not be taking place.
Shetland Arts would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all our staff, particularly the Technical, Front of House, and Bars and Catering staff, who have worked incredibly hard to get us to a state of enthusiastic readiness.
As soon as the contractors have finished the last of the snagging, we’ll be delighted to welcome people in!
