Letters / SIC ignored study
I would like to add to Vic Thomas’ letter regarding carrying out a Landscape Capacity Study for wind turbines (Undemocratic dream; SN 10/7/12).
This study has already been carried out by Land Use Consultants as part of the SIC Spatial Framework for Windfarm Developments.
This study takes every area of Shetland and assesses how many turbines the landscape can accommodate. It also assesses the accumulative affect of developments in neighbouring areas.
This study carried out by independent consultants well renowned in their field and formed the basis of the planning department’s deliberation that the wind farm should be rejected on planning grounds.
The SIC have totally ignored this study (the very study that other councils are crying out for). Let me give you an example.
The study recommends 12 turbines for the Nesting area. There are 40. That says everything you want to know about this development and this council’s attitude and greed.
