Letters / Bring it on SSE

Viking wind farm? With regard to SSE’s wish if to go ahead on their own, so be it, just let them try.

However do not be bounced into risking trust funds on this speculative wind farm venture.

After the judicial review and public inquiry is concluded, a couple of years hence. Then only if ROC subsidiaries are still available, if the interconnector is financed and built, if Scotland is still connected to the UK grid, if Shetland is still part of a maybe independent Scotland, then bring it on SSE.

Sixty plus turbines within 2K of residencies. Sixty plus legal actions with appeals going on for years, all the way to the Supreme Court and beyond into Europe.

Good luck SSE I will be waiting for you with about 3,000 plus others at a conservative estimate, I hope you have bomb proof investors and bankers…

Shetland News is asking its many readers to consider start paying for their dose of the latest local news delivered straight to their PC, tablet or mobile phone.

Journalism comes at a price and because that price is not being paid in today’s rapidly changing media world, most publishers - national and local - struggle financially despite very healthy audience figures.

Most online publishers have started charging for access to their websites, others have chosen a different route. Shetland News currently has  over 600 supporters  who are all making small voluntary financial contributions. All funds go towards covering our cost and improving the service further.

Your contribution will ensure Shetland News can: -

  • Bring you the headlines as they happen;
  • Stay editorially independent;
  • Give a voice to the community;
  • Grow site traffic further;
  • Research and publish more in-depth news, including more Shetland Lives features.
