News / Volunteers sought
SHETLAND Textile Museum is seeking volunteers to prepare its premises, help with displays and organise its gift shop ahead of its opening in May.
Founded in 1996, the museum’s collection comprises over 500 precious items of knitted and woven textiles dating from the nineteenth century to the present day.
Last year the Museum welcomed around 1,200 visitors from all over the world to its premises at the Böd of Gremista, in Lerwick, to view its collections and watch demonstrations of spinning and knitting.
Shetland Textile Museum Trust member Sarah Laurenson said: “The Shetland Textile Museum is highly regarded as a museum, has a beautiful and very important collection, and is housed in one of Lerwick’s most charming historical buildings.
“It is crucial that folk who love textiles or just have some spare time lend a hand between now and this summer’s opening to preserve our culture and heritage and help make the museum a success.”
