News / SNP candidates welcome Viking decision
THE TWO SNP candidates for the forthcoming council elections have welcomed the news that consent has been given for the 102 turbine Viking Energy wind farm.
Lerwick North candidate Danus Skene said: “This is a welcome announcement from the Scottish Government and will have a positive effect for the local community.
“It is clear the Fergus Ewing has considered these proposals carefully and I’m glad he has come down on the side that is right for Shetland.”
Candidate for the Lerwick South seat Iain Morrison added: “This wind farm will transform Shetland environmentally and economically.
“The decision to grant approval for 103 of the 127 proposed turbines by the Scottish Government shows that they have the best interest of Shetland and the local community at its heart.”
List MSP Jean Urquhart added: “The Viking Energy wind farm will have a fantastic economic impact on the local community and I’m pleased that the SNP Government has given it the green light.”
